Our Mission

The Paxton Record exists to provide a single, organized, source-backed resource documenting the legal, ethical, and political controversies of Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton. While individual news outlets have covered these stories extensively, no single resource previously compiled the full scope of Paxton's record in one place with primary source links. This site fills that gap.

We believe that public officials — especially the state's top law enforcement officer — should be held accountable through transparency and access to information. The Paxton Record is not affiliated with any political party, campaign, or advocacy organization. It is an independent public records archive.

Our Methodology

Every factual claim on this site is sourced to one or more of the following:

Where primary source documents are available, we link directly to them. Where claims are based on reporting, we link to the original news source. Allegations are clearly identified as allegations. Opinions are clearly labeled as editorial commentary. We distinguish between established facts, allegations, and analysis.

Correction Policy

Accuracy is the foundation of this project. We take errors seriously. If you believe any claim on this site is inaccurate, we want to hear from you.

We review all correction requests promptly. If an error is confirmed, we will correct it, note the correction with the date, and update the relevant source citations. We do not silently edit — all corrections are documented.

Published Corrections

September 29, 2026 — Date and nature of the State Securities Board action. The Timeline, Securities Fraud, Finances, and Documents pages dated Paxton's reprimand by the Texas State Securities Board to 2012. The disciplinary order was issued on May 2, 2014; 2012 is when the conduct it covered took place. The Timeline also labeled the entry "Criminal"; the order was a civil, administrative sanction and is now labeled "Ethics." All four pages have been corrected, and the Timeline now lists the 2012 conduct and the 2014 order as separate entries.

September 29, 2026 — What the third felony count concerned. The Securities Fraud page said all three 2015 felony counts related to Paxton's Servergy activities. Only the two first-degree fraud counts did. The third-degree count, for failing to register, concerned his solicitation of clients for Mowery Capital Management — the same conduct he accepted a State Securities Board reprimand and $1,000 fine for in 2014, and which contemporaneous reporting described as admitted. The page, the Timeline, the Finances page, and the homepage now say so. This correction was prompted by a reader letter. (The letter described the charges as federal; they were state charges brought by a Collin County grand jury.)

September 29, 2026 — Dismissal date on the Finances page. The Finances page said the securities fraud charges were dismissed in 2024. Paxton entered the pretrial diversion agreement in 2024; the charges were dismissed on June 18, 2025. Corrected.

September 29, 2026 — Federal investigation status, second instance. Our August 16 correction updated the body of the Whistleblowers page to reflect that the Justice Department closed its investigation without charges, but a summary box on the same page still said Paxton "remains under federal investigation." That line has been corrected.

August 16, 2026 — Whistleblower judgment payment status. The Whistleblowers page previously stated that the four whistleblowers had received their $6.6 million court-ordered payment, and the homepage stated the judgment "is paid entirely by Texas taxpayers." We could not verify that the judgment has been paid. The award is final and unappealed, but it requires an appropriation by the Texas Legislature, and we found no public confirmation that the funds have been appropriated or disbursed. Both pages now describe the judgment as final but not confirmed paid. We regret the error.

August 16, 2026 — Status of the federal investigation. The Whistleblowers page stated that the FBI investigation the whistleblowers triggered was "reportedly ongoing." That was out of date and contradicted our own reporting elsewhere on this site: the Department of Justice declined to bring charges in the final weeks of the Biden administration, closing the roughly four-year investigation. The page has been corrected.
